FYT supports the work of Somerset Churches Together in running this ecumenical sevice to the festival on an annual basis.
Currently we oversee creative activities in the marquee each afternoon. The marquee is also open for folks to sleep in and we have seen as many as 150+ sleep each night - especially when the rain comes!
Our Guiding Statement is:
“As part of the Christian Church we intend to demonstrates the love of Christ in Action by offering festival goers a warm welcome , space to reflect and a willingness to listen.”
We are at the Festival:
To give a warm welcome to Festival-goers
To provide space to reflect
To be of service to others by providing a listening ear
To have an enjoyable and positive experience
We are not at the Festival:
To condemn people
To preach at people
To judge people
Aspects of our presence include:
Opportunities for worship
Relaxed and unthreatening attitude
Personal availability
Non-judgmental attitude
Being open and accepting
Friendly and relaxed atmosphere
Talking and listening to people
Encouraging respect for others
Concern for the safety of all, including the staff, the needs of the more vulnerable and, where necessary, taking appropriate action.
Partnership
As a small team of the larger team (70+ volunteers) we oversee creative activities in the marquee each afternoon. We also sit on the planning group and provide training to volunteers.
The festival is used by well over 120,000 people from all kinds of back grounds. If you want to help as a volunteer you need to live in the area of the festival (South West), complete the necessary application forms and attend a weekend training session.
