Posted: 24/10/2008, 10:05

FYT Live will be a series of workshop based days to give youth workers, volunteers and agencies a chance to explore some of the issues around the work FYT is currently undertaking. By providing a series of events around the country we hope to be able to offer the opportunity for as many people in our network to access the training we have available.
Download a booking form in our "Download" section and make sure you book your place. The events are around different parts of the country to give as many people as possible the chance to attend.

Workshop Descriptions
Church on the Edge
Learning from recent research Church on the edge will look what it means to grow church with young people on the edge in today’s society. It will examine the process the being and growing church from scratch and what it may mean for us and the young people we engage with when we seek to truly journey with them to a place neither we nor they have been before.

Participation
“Your young will have visions and your old will dream dreams - so why is the church so preoccupied with dreams! Young people have an integral and crucial contribution to make in defining and doing church and yet their voice seems well and truly gagged. In this session Dave Wiles will use the findings from 4 years of research WITH young people and 33 years of youth work experience to offer clues about how we might integrate the vision of youth with the dreams of the not so youth!"

Spirituality and Young People
What is spirituality and how does it fit into the youth work we do? By exploring our understanding of this complex area and the concept and interpretation of it, this workshop aims to enable youth workers to explore practical ways in which to bring spirituality into our work. By engaging with the “bigger” and “smaller” questions amongst young people we can enable and encourage them to explore this for themselves. As youth workers we can heighten our awareness of the bigger picture of our aims and objectives.

Youth work After Christendom
By examining the influences of the past in terms of youth engagement with the established church and exploring how young people are currently engaging with the church, this workshop will provide a greater awareness and understating of the future issues we face. By thinking theologically and practically we can prepare to meet these challenges and look to the future.

Responding to Challenging Behaviour
This workshop will explore the current social context re young people and challenging behaviour, exploring models to aid understanding and determining what we are trying to achieve in work with young people. By exploring the philosophical/missional underpinning of our work, we will look at types of conflict behaviour, explore the causes of such behaviour and consider possible responses to the challenges.

Working with those Outside the Church
working with young people outside of Church! This workshop will look at how to begin this work, strategies, tools, challenges and rewards
