A NEW TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR YOUTH WORK

1. Listen to the voices of young people.
2. Have a special concern for the socially excluded and disadvantaged. 3. Work co-operatively with other agencies, particularly schools.
4. Give spiritual development a priority.
5. Demonstrate tough love.
6. Offer emotional and spiritual security.
7. Organise activities that help young people feel valued and significant.
8. Challenge the demonisation of young people.
9. Help build community cohesion by youth work that educates young people to value our common humanity and shared citizenship, not sectarian hate.
10. Be active politically to seek long term funding for youth work from national and local government.
