Just before Christmas I spent all my time sitting in Coffee shops drinking lattes, cappucinos, mochas and every other sort of coffee you could imagine – seriously, I did!!. Well, not really, but I did drink a lot of coffee as I undertook some serious research with groups of youth workers – honest! Whilst not traditionally one of FYT’s core activities, it proved most fruitful….
The Children’s Work Force Development Council gave me small grant to explore how youth workers might reflect upon their work, sustain themselves, avoid isolation and keep developing professionally. These are key issues for us at FYT as we seek to equip youth workers for the long-haul in working with at risk young people.
The idea to undertake this work in coffee shops up and down the country was designed to make the activity fun, relaxed and accessible. We have so far facilitated six events which have gone really well with demands to repeat the idea in other places. Nigel Pimlott.
