FYT - Out and About

Posted: 13/03/2007, 12:10

Frontier Youth Trust has always tried to bring a creative approach to all that it does and we wanted to share a few examples of that in this news item to encourage you to consider using the FYT team in your youth work practice - whether through direct contact with a team member or through the use of our resources - we want to be a relevant service to youth work with young people who are marginalised.

So a few examples of the creative side of our work in action:

* We were thrilled to provide a makeshift Bedouin tents at the Matrix full time workers conference in March - we had tons of positive feed back from youth workers who appreciated the space to chill out, tell stories, to reflect, to think and pray - indeed many of them decided that they would use the idea with their own youth groups!

* We are working in partnership to produce a creative resource for use in youth work that enables young people to explore their own evolving spirituality – watch out for ‘Glimpses’

* Last year on the East Coast Camp we turned a marquee into Narnia – with Wardrobe, snow, Christmas trees etc

* This year at the Glastonbury Festival we are hoping to open a confession tent – not to receive confessions but for us as Christians to confess our many failings to those who come to the festival (have to acknowledge that this idea comes from ‘Blue Like Jazz’ – Donald Miller – recommended read!

* Our Talent Project is a creative project that is providing so many good examples of young people getting involved in raising funds for a trust that will be all about youth led positive action in neighbourhoods around the UK

* Our Young People as Prophets web site is catching the interest of young people as they voice their views on issues that are important to them – check it out on http://www.ypap.org.uk/

* Tim Evans and Dave are going on an Urban Pilgrimage (Franciscan style) in June to listen to young people in relation to the question – ‘where is God?’ Watch this space for more details

* We are negotiating the creation of a 15 foot high pyramid (representational of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need as a symbol of all age common human needs) in several venues which will be decorated by young people to raise awareness about negative stereotyping of young people and will be used to publicise research that we are currently doing on adult attitudes to young people

* Etc

* Etc

If you are need of a creative boost, or want to bounce a few ideas, or would like some FYT involvement in your project, conference, training event etc – do get in touch.
