Working with Gangs

FYT is willing to provide a training workshop on this theme (see FYT training for terms). This brief report offers a summary of findings relating to an e-mail research project. A number of FYT contacts were asked to provide information relating to youth work with young people involved with gangs. Participants were asked the following questions:

1. In your youth work practice are you aware of any gangs that exist in your area of work? If yes - can you offer a single sentence that describes the gang/s.

A NEW TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR YOUTH WORK

1. Listen to the voices of young people.
2. Have a special concern for the socially excluded and disadvantaged.
3. Work co-operatively with other agencies, particularly schools.
4. Give spiritual development a priority.
5. Demonstrate tough love.
6. Offer emotional and spiritual security.
7. Organise activities that help young people feel valued and significant.
8. Challenge the demonisation of young people.

Information about using your will to leave a legacy to Frontier Youth Trust.

Frontier Camps

Frontier Camps has an independent structure and leadership system from FYT. FYT is thrilled to support the work through our advice, support, promotion, direct involvement (by some of our staff), some administrative support, training and prayer. The statement below has been prepared by the Frontier Camps leadership team and other volunteers:

“Sharing God’s story as we grow together in community”

Out4Good Project

Out4Good is led by Project Leader Jeannette Hewes, who brings a wealth of expertise and experience from her involvement with youth people at risk and continues to move the organisation forward. She is supported by Project Worker Steve Lawton in the task.

O4G began with the support of a local church, DNA Networks. A house was provided by a church member offering accommodation to two young men.

Individual young men were referred to the project for mentoring support.
